Earth, Wind & Fire, & Water

My father was a metallurgist. His contribution to the information age was a process called "zone melting," and made possible a level of purity hitherto unheard of, in an ingot of germanium. How this relates to you can be read about elsewhere in a book called "Crystal Fire, the Birth of the Information Age." The degree of purity was described as a few grains of salt in a few freight cars of sugar (i'll post the quote one of these days).

Most of our lives are nowhere near that dedicated or pure, nor was his (outside of work). However, having gone through in the last few decades a degree of personal "heat' unheard of, or unanticipated, it finally dawned on me that this shake-up, or molten zone in my life was exposing what I'm made of, and like that "zone melting," clearing out spiritual junk, and what passes the test, will remain. How odd that much of this junk came from the religious arena of life, as well as personal attachments and associations, little "idols" or precepts about how the world is, and works.

Only recently did it dawn on me that the Lord is also described as a metallurgist, in the scriptures!

and later in the same chapter, once she perceived that he was a prophet ("first, get their attention," right? any teacher knows this, and so, I believe, does God.)her THIRST was to know about worship. In current terms, Western style, this would be, which church do you belong to, which denomination are you, what's your faith, etc. Still relevant today: WHERE do we worship? (good question, for a Samaritan, and a current political/spiritual divide between these two groups). First of all, he didn't answer directly. He established his authority. Then answered her thirst for righteousness and true worship. So, consider the answer:

Well, friends, in Acts 2, we see Jesus declared as glorified, and that outpouring happened. While I am not going to pin down this gift of the spirit as ONLY "liquid" or "only" wind, or "only fire" (it has been compared to all of those), I will say for sure that neither the old testament nor the new testament speak of it as what I hear nowadays, 1/3rd of a trinity sitting

Who am I, and what's this about?

Among several other maybe less relevant descriptors, I KNOW that I have the gift of holy spirit within me, and have for decades. I could tell you on the spot when this happened, and have never doubted this since.

Laced throughout the contents of me -- and my thinking & values -- is holy spirit. The vessel, interacting, affecting, and working dynamically is me -- my body, background, brain, biology, and the who what when where of my life. Descriptors. I talk too much, which will soon become evident, and SOMETIMES some of makes sense, maybe.

Gift means gift, not reward. Hence it's not a performance indicator in life, although it IS a performance enabler for sure. And much more. Like muscles, in many people, it is underutilized. People tend to talk a lot about God using Them, but how often do they use what He gave them, huh? This gift was for assurance, and for use, for demonstration, and for declaration, for connection, for insight, and - - - - for Free (to the individual).

LIKE LIQUID GOLD

Gold mixed with other alloys is more rigid (as on a wedding ring), but I understand that pure, it's soft, flexible, and pliant, which too many Christians today are not. They are ingrained into the structure of their lives and demands of being middle class, or stresses of being poor, or elitist object/subject relationships with poor folk that can sometimes come with being wealthy. I said CAN.

If I had to choose whether to hang out with a middle class person or a poor person, these days, I'd go with the poor. I have almost never met a boring homeless person, and most of the ones I meet aren't shy, either. I have been an odd sort of middle class kid raised by a father who grew up in Brooklyn and a Mom from Nebraska. The diversity in my life came from being (in no particular order) a. a musician b. an innately curious wandering sort of soul c. able to focus (see music) but also wanting to know why. The type of music I did led me to conclude fairly early on that this was not ALL I wanted to be in life.

The wanting to know why apparently is what may have led me to Jesus Christ. Or, He called and I hear him calling. I don't particularly which, just glad to be here.

Did you catch that word "gift"? ?? Good. More on that later.

Now, I lack tact, so I'm going to tell you up front WHY no one has ever been able to convince me that I did NOT have the gift of holy spirit in me (and hence, charge me anything to get me to that place, or control me with guilt about it, either) any more than someone has been able to convince me that I can't type, or play the piano (which I started at age 4). WHY? I have evidence. I speak in tongues.

(Pause to review all the usual protests and commentary on that; "maybe it's not God's will for me, if He wants me to, He'll make it happen"
(No, my friend, not the God of the Bible, see Rev. 3:20. He may knock, but He will not typically barge in.). "It's not important to my walk..." (the hell it ain't! Read Paul! -- "I would that ye all spake with tongues. . . . I thank my God that I speak with tongues more than ye all." I would say it has a certain priority in this Christianity thing. You cannot tell this on an average Sunday in North America, for the mos part.

Paul, that apostle to the Gentiles, said "What is it then, I WILL pray with the spirit and I WILL pray with the understanding also." (no I'm NOT going to quote it for you. Click on the "Read" link above and look it up yourself, and acquire a skill in the process).

I will is like the marital "Do you, Fred, take this woman, Sheila, for your lawful wedded wife?" When you're at that point, the answer is Yes I Will or No I Will not. That's the word "will" and the simplicity of it.

Now speaking with your native language has SOME similarities to "speaking in tongues" (or "praying in the spirit," etc.) (Or for that matter singing with the spirit...). For one, most of us when born had one, or maybe two, languages that our moms or Dad or nannies spoke to us in, hence at birth you sort of landed into that language.

Also, like SOME of us, when we go to speak, we don't premeditate very much WHAT we say (case in point), but simply get busy talking. While this is not always advisable in communication with another person, it is ALWAYS advisable when beginning to speak in tongues.

With speaking in tongues, since you don't make the words up yourself, they come from the spirit within you, HOLY spirit, a gift from God, purchased by Jesus Christ, with his blood on the cross, the blood of a righteous man, a lamb of the first year, and the Son of God just like Adam was (God created Adam from the ground, Jesus Christ in Mary's womb, literally, via the holy spirit), and NOT available until that dead man Jesus Christ was:

1. Resurrected (by God) and

2. Ascended into heaven (see Acts 1 & 2 for description), and

3. God had given him this gift, this thing that Jesus came to make available for mankind, and got crucified in the process.

The beauty of this is that you literally can't screw it up, and you can do it in your underwear or dressy clothes, or in an emergency situation, or when you are happy or sad, or PERIOD. It's an "I will." It's like liquid gold and the DOING of this little thing, this simply speaking in tongues (to yourself, if there are others around and it's not a situation where words of edification, exhortation and comfort are going to be brought forth for an assembly of people), was referred to by Jesus Christ as being "endued (clothed) with power from on high.

How much did you (if you did), pay for the book called "The Secret"??

Well you can't pay that much for the gift of Holy Spirit, or pretend you earned it, there is nothing to do but acknowledge and believe in your hear (see 1, 2, 3 above) the Lord Jesus Christ AND that God raised Him from the dead. The power, my friend, is in the resurrection, and the power in YOUR life is the receipt, and waking in it, in this gift of holy spirit, proving daily and within yourself, bringing forth fruit, that eternal life exists and that that Bible is true.

That's also where the freedom is. "Where the spirit of the Lord is, there liberty."

And, "the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets." No making excuses for the devil made me do this, or God made me do THAT. You are responsible, and you are in control ,BUT you are driving a Porcshe, a BMW, the absolute spirit that lived in and motivated the man Jesus Christ that changed history.

You just changed Lords (there are only 2 basic ones: God / mammon). Work well with Him. Listen, do, and know you are loved, and known by name. And understand your goals and purposes in life.

I am the author of this blog and am responsible for what i write on it, whether nonsense, too much, or too little. BLOGSPOT.com gave me the free opportunity to run my mouth off on anything within reason, that is the structure and the availability. How much time I spend blogging is MY responsibility. Should i CHOOSE to blog, there are all these "gadgets" I can add, or not add. Look into, or not look into, to the extent of my interest, or particular need.

As to holy spirit, in I Corinthians 12, the apostle Paul set it in order, and listed NINE evidence of it. YES, I said "it." 'It" is a gift, althoug this particular gift has a character, the character of God innate in it. It's still a gift.

So Paul had to do something, because the assembly of people there were show-off with this gift, and also confused about it, clamoring to each have a word, a doctrine, to draw attention to themself. It was disorder and confused. No deal.

I haven't recently attended such an assembly, I have recently been in places where it was VERY orderly, no question about the order of events. In fact, if I had a question, a comment, or was inspired to share some scripture, FORGET IT. Even in the 'Home fellowships" we were NOT to really read out loud the word of God and comment upon it ourself, not for long anyhow, but to study what the minister already said, mostly. I had more interactivity in a Catholic study group I attended the year before, a real eye opener, in fact, because each read and each commented, there was a humility in the group leader, and the structure was conducive to this.

Paul preached a sermon in someone's house long ago so LONG that a young men fell asleep, and fell out the window, and it must've been a bad fall because the man died. Now that would disrupt the situation, but they raised him up again. (Search the name "Eutychus."). . .. Or DID he ?? ? Maybe it was all myth, rumor, and superstition.

Wouldn't you like to KNOW? If so, then, hang in there, pray, search the scriptures (contact me, I talk!), and ACT on what you read. And don't let "we don't do that here" talk you out of it.

Well now, this area of speaking in tongues is where many folks just plain fear to tread, or ministers fear to HAVE them tread. A person who already knows she has holy spirit (I'm purposely not using the word "born again" at this point, will discuss another time) is not going to possibly sit through a long sermon telling him or her how to determine whether or not she does.

Moreover in most of the churches I've been to, that gift is a "He" and is still stuck up in heaven judging whether you're worthy of this gift or that one, or maybe none. FYI I do NOT worship that one.

I wish to separate from this and distinguish it. That's not my God.

ONE reason I started this blog (other than that I was going to burst if I didn't get to witnessing more regularly) is that THAT God, what I can see He does in people, is teach them how to associate with each other and behave very nicely together. I mean they sit in neat rows, it is NEVER rowdy or unclear who's in charge and who is talking. This is evident from the theater-setup. They sing (hey, that's nice...), they're respectful, they smile at me not only in the building there, but also (after I attend a while) when encountering me in public, and they have charity towards each other (yes, it's true they do). Many times, they also have outreach ministries, which are also structured and properly supervised, I presume.

But I don't see the miracles. And my life was just too messy to fit in the front door. The natural normal issues of MY life, at least, were disruptive to the flow of things.

For one, I couldn't afford sometimes to drive my own car to a weeklong fellowship. I even picked one church simply because I could walk there. Another thing was -- well, there were just too many THINGS. I felt like I shouldn't be wearing pants and should behave only a certain way. I DID wear pants, but I felt I shouldn't be. I also survived a decade of abuse, and have learned to listen to my gut, sometimes it's more honest than my brain. (there is something of a dialogue, but I respect it way more than I used to .....)

And I have learned by experience if something comes from the Lord, from the spirit (the holy spirit within me) it IS reliable, and it would be best to Stop if it's a STOP! or GO if it's a GO!

Speaking of which (yes, this is how my brain works, it connects things), some apostles in Acts 4 or thereabouts were imprisoned for -- disrupting the order of things, you know, in the matter of miracles and whatnot during church -- the lame man healed was running around and disturbing the peace, and the name of Jesus Christ had not only been embarrassing (some entities had just crucified the guy, an uncomfortable reminder), but this was possibly going to draw down the attention of the Romans upon them, and/or cut into the action, meaning, the structure and hierarchy of the temple, and those who served and functioned within it.

And an angel got them out again and said, "GO!, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life."

Now, I diagrammed sentences in elementary school (one of the few useful things I learned there), and that is NOT a complicated sentence!

Now let's look at how we do it, Western Style, 2009, in my state:

For "GO" we say "COME" instead.

For "STAND" we say "sit down in rows, like the people who came to hear Jesus Christ speak, but were famished. He made them sit down in rows (our Lord was not disorganized...) and distributed the loaves and fishes to them, so they were fed. But they came to hear, not speak, like little birds with their mouths open.
Yes, in churches one can stand -- and sit -- and stand, at appropriate times. That's the order of service, right? But how about SPEAK?

For "SPEAK"
Well, "I suffer not a woman to teach...."

Well, suppose I was a man with a word from God, and I walked into someone else's church and started calling out the word of God aloud, like these apostles just did? What would the word from the powers that be BE in that house of worship be at that point in time?

For "SPEAK" we say, well, maybe, but probably not. Whose church IS this anyhow? (see name on the door).

My friends, the church (ekklesia) was purchased on the cross by Jesus Christ, and anyone standing in front of a group of people to minister to them is an overseer, NOT an owner.

Basically, for this type of bold, calling out the word of God aloud in a public setting, there may be a mike. Who gets the mike has the platform and permission to speak. It just ain't as conducive even as things were in their time to speak up.

And for "ALL THE WORDS OF THIS LIFE" we have "we don't do that around here." Too messy).

"GO! Stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life!"

As you can see, I'm outspoken. I also have this "thing" that where I read in the Bible it says, "exhort one another daily," that actually meant daily. I saw a situation that was taking up the Sunday hours, or maybe the Wednesday hours, and then the women's Bible fellowship hours, the classes (yes) on how to be a man, or how to be a woman.

There are middle aged people taking these classes. I looked at them. I was not unclear as to gender. . and taking a class in how to be a woman, well, somewhere between marriage, motherhood, teaching oodles of children's choirs, advocating for women's rights (a separate but not entirely topic here), and learning (after marriage) to again trust my gut like a good woman knows how to do when lives are at stake, or follow a hunch, and so forth. . . .. I just didn't stop and take a class on "HOW" to be a woman, or more womanly.

I felt like I had to be "fake" to blend in. I felt like I was again in the cult where I picked up the abusive father of our kids and my husband for too long.

I MIGHT be interested in a class on how to be more like Jesus Christ, because I think He's in a short supply these days. To quote a page on the door of a local charity where I have been eating (more frequently than not this past year), re: Nonprofits: "Demand is Up, Donations are Down, 5 items only..."

This is true of the scriptures, the real just read aloud scriptures, in too many churches the day. There are classes about the scriptures or how to read them, quotations from them, cites, and sermons said on them, but there are TWO things I am interested in, our country really needs, even more than we need President Obama to bring 'CHANGE. We need:

1. The words from God

2. For people who name the name of Jesus Christ to ACT like Him, and Do what He did.

Rather than congregating to sing and determine what was or was not "of the Spirit" and whether or not it's here today, in our midst, to KNOW that it is, and then just get going.

They might become like those folk jumping and hollering down the street. They might be thought overemotional. (If you are concerned about appearances, do NOT, I repeat, do NOT attempt to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. Go for a sane, less lively lifestyle. (See

It's NOT that big a deal, folks, to receive this gift, just as teaching a child, your own, to read is NOT that big a deal, generally speaking. The reason these things (reading, receiving the gift of holy spirit and then walking in and with this gift in daily life) have become such a "big deal" is that by making them somehow hard and mysterious, well, that's a market niche. That's a tool to withhold knowledge and then let it out in bits and pieces, at a price -- whether money, or time, or membership in a corporate entity (I believe churches are nonprofit (501)c's or whatever they are in the USA.

One thing about an INhale is that it is commonly followed by an EXhale.

MOST churches, and I've been in many (and have the B.Th.) teach you how to inhale this word, and in what format (it's rarely straight out of the horse's mouth -- much less straight from the mouth of God, as Jesus Christ says we should eat it, to LIVE.)

The "sit and be taught. Period!" format is no longer working for me. That's not me.

Also, I'm a woman.

NOW, we have a problem in too many of America's churches. There are these doctrines and traditions to preserve.

After four years "ministering" music in a church outside my faith -- but a dynamic time it was, because I was giving out music, and in a dynamic relationship with a little choir -- I was out on my ass, suddenly (with no unemployment, either) and that was it. I had pushed, or offended, or was too affected by a difficult marital situation, or HEY, it was just time to move on. This was the first time I'd ever been in the steady employ of a church, despite decades singing music that came from it.

. You know choirs? They have politics, ttitudes, gossip, factions, grudges, and a variety of interest levels like almost any other group. UNlike many other groups, when a person sings, he/she/it gives out something innate to him/her/itself. Your voice is YOURS. You inhale, exhale, and EVERYTHING you do, as well as many things you are thinking and sensing, affect how that sucker sounds. It is one of the most sensitive registers of a person's psyche around. To sing requires just doing it, to sing with some skil is also a balance of emotion, intellect, habit (which is character, discipline, etc.) and investing in the moment of song.

It's heart of fire, brain of ice, or and the constant balance of the same.

If it's detached, it sounds like crap to someone listening with heart.

I am sure this is why the Levites, the praisers, were so significant.

Well, I'm a praiser, and i feel out of sorts and out of kilter when i can't do this in some fashion.

SO, here I am, not singing, not playing (and not working, either). I am in short, not doing what I was designed, trained, and wished to do in this life. That also included with my daughters, I was put out of their lives also. So here is this vacuum, and dry spot. All the people I used to eat, sing, talk to, and schmooze with as colleagues and friends (at least in the flesh, locally) were out of my life, PERIOD.

I tried 3 churches locally. The third one, I tried diligently for a month, and when I realized there was not a chance in hell I'd be able to speak the words from heaven (because of my XX and not XY plumbing), plus I was just tired of NOT manifesting the holy spirit I knew I had, inside, I absented myself from that building and moved about a block away, to the local coffee shop, where I continued to engage with people locally.

So, I walked out of the building and asked the Lord to send me people who at LEAST acknowledged the power of God and were interesting in doing something about it. I wanted people to pray with, people to speak the word of God to, and people to occasionally eat a meal with. I needed someone to speak scripture to ME.

This is what attending those churches was like for me: hymns, music, prayer, nice - emotional -- relief to be among people who acknowledge this guy CJ.

Another drab day in the life . . . .

(This is from Mark 9:14ff)

When they [Peter James, John & Jesus] came back to the [other, obviously] disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them. Immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were amazed and began running up to greet Him. And He asked them, "What are you discussing with them?"

And one of the crowd answered him (that's nice), "Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute, and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and stiffens out."

[Now, the assumption there was a spirit (as in devil spirit) took over his son and made him act like this; the boy had lost control of himself. "The devil made me do it," only for real.

Now, I know that there are people who may read this blog that might have a livelihood working with children, or adults who have this problem, whether it be epilepsy, or other things going on, spasms. Yes I read some medicine (in fact, quite) and yes there are natural causes of physical problems. Yes, also, I am aware (as you may be) that scientists now are beginning to put together (well, have, really), how emotions affect the body chemistry, hormones, and can screw it up. They have figured out that things like violence, trauma, fright, anger, over a period of time can mess one over. They have also figured out that domestic violence, for one, has aftershock effects (similar to war) on people who've lived with that. Candace Pert (insert the degrees) has written about "the Molecules of Emotion." Well, there are many factors.

But that's not the point. I'm talking about a bipolar day in the life of the Lord Jesus Christ and his followers. Jesus handled it OK (we call this being "centered" now), some of his disciples, not always. They just come from what was commonly called "the Transfiguration," signs from God and all that. Back down to sea level, it's like Moses coming down from the mountain with the 10 commandments, and here's this golden calf, and some orgies to go with it.

So if you want a signed, sealed, delivered, safe and predictable life, stop now and do NOT get involved. Do NOT speak in tongues and do NOT give God some space in your schedule, or your heart, perhaps, and pick your socioeconomic class and stick to it.

Back to the Bible at hand. I talk too much, I know....

Here they are. I'm not sure whether I'd be more afraid of the kid writhing on the ground or arguing with scribes. I WILL tell you, though, in many houses of worship these days, such a kid would be taken out, because his life problems were disrupting the Order of Service.

I know a few things about it. We had a lot of old people in my last church. An older man collapsed in his chair, and I was at the piano bench, and others handled him, calling the ambulance. The order of service (liturgy) was paused for a while. This was my job, and there was not a consensus to go and minister to, pray in the name of Jesus Christ for this old person, and I confess I did not.

Another time: I was having a different kind of problem: My husband was battering and threatening me in the home, as he had been the habit for many years. It disrupted a fellowship in my home -- I had to flee out of it, leaving the old child (a toddler) with the woman I knew, and taking the nursing baby with me. The assault happened shortly before the setup crew came out. I was in no shape emotionally to be anywhere around (obviously), I was crying. . . .So I took my mess out on the street, and "fellowship" happened in my home without me.

Another time period in the same marital life (no, I'm not living with him now), we were attempting counseling for this. I sought help from the pastor, who I'd seen teach Bible pretty good, seemed like a great guy, church was a praise the Lord, multi-ethnic, joyful, thriving, yada yada nice place. But I had a problem. We had been going in for counseling and this was stirring up stuff at home. There was retaliation, physical, threatening, and sometimes involving weapons. We went to pastors 1, 2, and finally 3, and had incidents all around this, including I again had to flee the home with the kids 2 days before Christmas. I was told I could call the pastor during office hours, but somehow I JUST could not schedule these crises to his office hours, try as I might.

Another time, fully 10 years later, a church attempted to take me under their wing and into their flock for a while. (If this is you, yes, I am grateful).
